A furniture designer for a grandfather and a carpenter as a father, Ian spent a lot of his childhood in the workshop making bespoke pieces, he secretly aspires to be an artisan and can often be found chisel in hand creating or trying to convince other craftsmen to part with their knowledge.
With multiple degrees in marine science and a successful early career throughout his 20’s Ian needed a change and believed the craftsmanship ingrained in him and his love of design was rediscovered when he worked professionally as a photographer.
He photographs for many architects and designers showcasing their projects true design intent, he knows the value of collaboration and surrounds himself with respected creatives. As a photographer (MAIPP) his understanding of the design process allows him to relish the rhythmic rituals of creating something from a raw materials and with his image making he plays with light and space, often in a graphic immersive style.
Based in Sydney, he travels regularly interstate and internationally to photograph for architectural practices, designers, advertising agencies and magazines. He has been published in many Australian and International journals over the last decade. Besides his commissioned work he spends time focussing on personal projects surrounding the built and natural environment and believes that to do something he truly loves is a privilege, and therefore continually strives for creative excellence through consultation, collaboration and detailed execution.
When not at work you can either find him creating in the workshop, in the ocean spear fishing and free-diving, or in the backyard with his family gardening and tending to chickens or their bee hives.
